2008 programme

IMPORTANT NOTE: To ensure there is sufficient room on our buses, all trips must be pre-booked by emailing trips@tclbs.org, or writing to the address on the contact page. Please state your name, and which excursion you are intending to come to. We shall send you back a confirmation email or letter so you know your booking has been safely received. If writing to us, don’t forget to include a return address as well !

If you need to cancel your booking, please let the Society know in advance of the day so we don’t wait for you.

We will always endeavour to accommodate all members wishing to travel. If demand is high, we will run more than one vehicle, unless numbers are strictly limited by the nature of the excursion.

Departures will generally be from Central London, and subject to a minimum number of participants. Payment will be taken on the day.

MAY

10 May - Castle Point Bus Museum, Canvey Island. See article on News page for a full review of the day.

JULY

13 July - RTL1427 and the Amberley Museum - we are hiring Pavilion Coaches red RTL for a day which starts in Brighton rather than London. After a short tour around the sites of Brighton, we will proceed to a local yard where six or seven local operators keep their vehicles, including RMs, an RT, VRs, Olympians and Titans as well as a large colleciton of coaches. Then along the seafront to Worthing and onto the Amberley Museum, where there will be further vintage bus rides, as well as a chance to enjoy the steam gala taking place that day. Members £20 including entrance to the museum.

AUGUST

17 August - relocating from Leighton Buzzard to Milton Keynes Bus Garage for this year's event, we will travel in a suitable vehicle to the 'Routemaster Owners Club' Summer Show and Running Day. Plenty of static exhibits to view and rides around the area as well. Members £15.

SEPTEMBER

13 September - The East Anglian Transport Museum, Carlton Colville. Ride on former London trams and trolleybuses including an after dark service and vintage bus rides around the area.

21 September - 'Cravens Day'. Using the only two remaining Cravens RTs in preservation, the trip will recreate some of the journeys carried out by these and similar vehicles during their brief period of service with London Transport in Watford, Harrow and Ruislip.

We begin with a departure at 10:15 from within Victoria Coach Station, following former Green Line route 708 to Watford.
Then we will recreate route 385 from North Watford to Croxley Green, home to the Cravens RTs, where RT1499 ran both in Red and Green livery on this local service from Watford High Street Garage.

The final leg will be a rerun of Route 158 from Watford Junction to Ruislip Lido via Harrow Weald Garage (also a former home to Red Cravens RTs) where the vehicles will be posed in the garage for a nostalgic photo opportunity.

Finally we return to Central London, and for convenience, will stop at all mainline stations.

See Newsletter 5 on the 'News' page of this website for fuller details. Members £17. This trip is also available to non-members at £20.

OCTOBER

Oxford bus museum - another chance to visit a collection of fine vehicles, again with trips on several buses. Members £18 (includes a donation to the museum).

12 October - RT rally special to Castle Point Open Day Show. Departs from outside Embankment Tube at 10:00. Return fare £10, non-members welcome.

NOVEMBER

A day out on an appropriate vehicle over a former Green Line route. Suggestions from members for a suitable route welcome.

Further dates may be added during the year, and members will be emailed details as they become available. Remember all excursions are subject to a minimum number of passengers, so please book early. This not only guarantees your place, but also ensures in good time that the trip is viable to run.
