2008 programme

IMPORTANT NOTE: Although we can normally accommodate you on the day, it is helpful if you let us know in advance you wish to travel. You can email trips@tclbs.org, or write to the address on the contact page with your booking. Please state your name, and which excursion you are intending to come on. We shall send you back a confirmation email or letter so you know your booking has been safely received.

If you need to cancel your booking, please let the Society know in advance so we don’t wait for you. We will always endeavour to accommodate members wishing to travel. If demand is high, we will run more than one vehicle, unless numbers are strictly limited by the nature of the excursion.

Departures will generally be from Central London, and subject to a minimum number of participants. Payment can be made in advance or on the day.

MARCH

22 March - feeder service to the Red RF running day at Sandown Park.

RF491 departs at 09:30 from the south side of Oxford St, Marble Arch end, just before the turn into Park Lane, close to bus stop 'P'. It leaves Sandown Park for the return at 17:00. Return fare £10, non-members welcome.

APRIL

5 April - feeder service to the Cobham Annual Open Day and Bus and Coach Gathering.

Departs from opposite Embankment Tube Station at 08:30 and Victoria Station, Bus Stop 'L' in Vauxhall Bridge Road at 08:40. Return fare £10, non-members very welcome. Vehicle expected to be RT624.

12 & 13 April - feeder service to RT anniversary organised by the London Bus Company (in conjunction with Ensignbus).

Using a different ex Green Line vehicle on each day we depart Victoria Gillingham St at 08:30, outside Embankment Tube at 08:40, pause at Aldgate bus station for photographs and depart at 09:00. We then proceed to Ongar Station in time for the first RT departures of the day. We return in the evening as a 721 from Brentwood Robin Hood and Little John (time tbc) back to Aldgate and Victoria.

Fare £15 for one day, £25 for both, and this includes the RT rover ticket. Service open to members and non-members and it would be really helpful to know if you intend to travel to ensure we have enough buses operating the service.

18 April - 'Routemaster Day'

Having celebrated RTLs and Craven RTs it is now the turn of the Routemaster. RM506 has been very kindly loaned to us for the occasion by the Aston Manor Transport Museum, and so the day begins with a departure from London Bridge Station along former route 7 to Kew Green. After a pause for photographs we will proceed to the London Transport Museum and Depot at Acton, for a buffet lunch.

Colin Curtis, whose name is synonymous with the design of the Routemaster, and who spent 40 years in a variety of roles at London Transport, has kindly agreed to speak to us about it's development and history. This will include a question and answer session, and will then be followed by a presentation given by the Senior Designer from Capoco, joint winners of the recent competition to design a 21st Century Routemaster.

There will be guided tours of the depot, and hopefully a visit to a nearby garage as well.

We return into Central London on former route 207A, on which RM506 was a familiar sight during it's time at HL.

Members £20, non-members welcome at £21.50 (includes buffet lunch and admission to Acton).

NOTE: This trip is only available via The Classic London Bus Society. Please do not turn up at the Acton Depot unannounced.

MAY

25 May - The Two Museums Running Day at Aston Manor & Wythall.

A trip to Birmingham to enjoy the many vehicles in service between the museum sites, and see the static exhibits housed. It is anticipated we will travel by train from Euston to Birmingham New St, and be met by one of the Museum's buses. Fare expected to be around £15 (tbc).

Further dates will be added during the year, and members will be emailed details as they become available. Remember all excursions are subject to a minimum number of passengers, so please book early. This not only guarantees your place, but also ensures in good time that the trip is viable to run.
